Payson Scottish Festival and Highland Games
The 37th annual Payson Scottish Festival and Highland Games was held in Payson, Utah on July 9th and 10th. What many Utah MacGregors consider to be our “home festival”, the Payson festival is one of the few that does not charge admission. The beautiful Memorial Park has lots of big trees to provide shade. And we needed it in the 100-degree drought weather here!
Like all good festivals, there were athletic events, entertainment, pipe and dance competitions, bands, parades, and good family fun. The MacGregors had a strong presence at the festival. Our new stand-up banners were a hit with the public. They generated lots of visitors and interest. Piper Trent McGregor, shown in his pipe band tartan, took home three Class 4 medals for solo piping.
Past Chieftain Lois Ann Garlitz had many of her children and grandchildren attending with her this year to swell our numbers. We even had a MacNaughton, and ancestral neighbor from the head of Loch Awe, join us in the parade.
Despite the heat, the festival set a record for attendance following the plague year with no festivals. It was grand to go to a festival again! We look forward to see more festivals and Highland games this year.
