It is exciting that we will have an in person Gathering this year, the first one since 2019. Thanks to all of you who completed the on line survey which assisted us in our negotiations with hotels. Big thanks to Mary Byrd Pettenati and Paul Gregg for their participation on the planning committee.


The Annual Gathering will be a 3 day event in historic Raleigh, NC. Registration is now open on the ACGS website and will remain open until September 9, 2022. The member registration fee is $165 which includes the Chieftain’s reception, Ceilidh, boxed lunch on Saturday, pre-banquet reception and Banquet, and all business meetings. This year there are options included for non-member guests to attend some events within the Gathering.

The host hotel is the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. As you walk out of the hotel onto Fayetteville St, you will find a bustling downtown with over 60 restaurants, bars, and shopping options, all within a 4 block radius. The visitor center can lead you many museums and art galleries for your enjoyment as well.

The hotel has newly renovated guestrooms with new beds, hardwood floors and modern furnishings. The last couple of years during the Covid pandemic have been difficult on the hospitality venues and room rates have increased. Only 7 hotels responded to our request for proposals. The Sheraton best met our overall needs and negotiated a rate of $179/night with us. This rate is also available for a 3 day pre and post stay for those who would like to extend their stays. The hotel requires all reservations to be completed by August 26, 2022 in order to receive this discounted rate. Rooms may be available after that date at the discounted rate but it will be up to the hotel. You may make your reservation by using this link or you may call the central reservations center at 1-800-325-3535 and use Mini hotel: Code=ACG. Self-parking is offered at $15 a day across the street from the hotel or valet for $30 a day.


Several social activities have been planned starting on Thursday evening with the Chieftain’s reception at the hotel. This will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and of course, some bagpipe music


The Ceilidh will spotlight Scottish music and songs provided by Carl Peterson. Mr. Peterson’s blog says: “One man. One guitar. One incredible concert.” You may also hear a sample of his music on his website.

NOTE: outside food and drink cannot be brought into the Ceilidh.

This year members will be able to have non-member guests attend the Ceilidh at a cost of $25 each. If members wish to invite non-member guests, complete the section on the registration page. This will allow appropriate planning for the number of attendees.


The banquet will be preceded by the David Daniel Magruder reception after which the Society’s Piper will lead the guests into the banquet hall. The banquet will be a formal banquet with all the trimmings including the Toast to the Haggis in Gaelic and entertainment by members of the Clan Gregor Scottish Band and Dancers. You will need to select your choice for the meal when you register. NOTE: outside food and drink cannot be brought into the banquet.

Members will also be able to have non-member guests attend the Banquet at a cost of $75 each (children 12 years and under $25 each). If members wish to invite non-member guests, complete the section on the registration page. This will allow appropriate catering for the number of attendees.


As everyone is aware, we strive to make our Gatherings cost neutral. Toward that goal, we are again including the option for members to sponsor some of the Gathering costs. For those who provide sponsorship for a minimum of $50, then recognition will be given in the following ways (donation dollar amount excluded):

3. Event sponsor signs at the Gathering

Options for sponsorship include entertainment, equipment, bartenders, receptions, haggis and pipe band accommodations. The registration form includes the Sponsorship option.
